Mirror Monday Morning Meandering

We can't lie to the mirror. It stands firmly before us beckoning our eyes to look, really look without and within. We can try to look away but its invitation continues. When we rest upon the image of us, we realize it wasn't so scary after all. Our reflected eyes can be our most comforting presence.
Mirror work has been a part of my coaching practice since day one and continues. Holding a mirror up and really seeing the light within bounced back and the fine lines of time etched in each of our faces are divine connections to something greater.
This morning I'm remembering a day in 1997 when the mirror caught me by surprise. It was soon after my arm surgery and I hadn't seen its reflection yet. Its odd form hung awkwardly at my side and I realized the reconstructive work had changed it forever. Tears flowed over and I had a present moment experience where I knew I had to choose the view of self to take. I could pick to feel deformed or I could garner strength within and take a stand in that direction. The truth was my arm wouldn't work in the ways it did before and that realization was devastating. On the other hand, the doctors had told me that I would likely lose its use completely and that wasn't the case either. It was truth-telling time and I went there.
Have you ever had one of those 'come to Jesus moments' when you looked into the mirror and knew the time of choice had arrived? That was what that moment was for me and I got busy that day deciding my strength. We each have a strength inside of us, that I call our Core, and it will get us through every single little obstacle life chooses to put upon us and we choose to look upon. It is our choice.
Shortly after that mirror morning, I traveled to Canada on a solo Vision Quest to rediscover my strength of mind, body and spirit. The physical challenges were immense and I faced fear, falsehoods and facts wholeheartedly. I went there because I knew the other direction would be a downward spiral of defeat. I wasn't willing to succumb to being a victim or weak or put upon. My life hasn't been easy but I wouldn't change a thing because the strength within has allowed me the gifts of discernment and decision-making that rests upon a solid sense of self.
I look in the mirror and reflected back is a Core that allows me to go there, wherever there beckons.
I invite you to take the time to look, really look into the mirror of self. What decisions are beckoning you to be made from that deep reflection of you? I'm here to hear you and to help you hear your wisdom within.
