Gratitude and Toothpaste

Once upon a time there was a woman that lost sight of herself. She was so busy surviving that she forgot how to live and enjoy the bounty that was all around her. Somehow or other life kept getting more difficult and clearly she was off her path.

One day she was grumbling about how rough life was and she heard a clear, quiet voice encouraging her to be grateful. She dug through her day and tried to find something that was going well but to no avail. The next morning she was preparing for work and she squeezed some toothpaste onto her toothbrush only to have it jump off and fall into the sink. This really made her grumble. She had to brush her teeth though so she picked up the tube of toothpaste with conviction and squeezed it on the brush one more time. It stayed and she looked up above and said 'thank you.' At that time she didn't know who or what she was speaking to but she was grateful that the toothpaste stayed. She noticed the singing birds on her way to work that day and other simple blessings started to appear with more frequency. Before long all of the wild bends in the road had been smoothed out and life became more calm and peaceful. She was convinced that the moment of gratitude was what turned her life around.

I invite you to look at the areas of your life where grumbling is going on and find some little piece that is going right and see what beauty gets amplified by a quick little 'thank you.'

With gratitude for your presence in my life and in this community,
